North Atlantic jet stream variability is attributable to internal chaotic variability but also to external forcings. One potential external driver is Barents-Kara sea ice extent. Here we look at variability of the jet in the winter season(DJF) and its association with sea ice variability in the preceding November. A clear pattern of anomalies emerges.
