FrostByte R Hall: Sea Ice and the north Atlantic jetstream


This FrostByte was created by Richard Hall, for the International Committee of Arctic Research Planning III meeting, held 23 - 30 April 2015, in Toyama, Japan.

North Atlantic jet stream variability is attributable to internal chaotic variability but also to external forcings. One potential external driver is Barents-Kara sea ice extent. Here we look at variability of the jet in the winter season(DJF) and its association with sea ice variability in the preceding November. A clear pattern of anomalies emerges.
